[ARCHIVED] Plainview City Council Appoints Timothy Gibson as New Fire Chief

Tim Gibson

The position was vacated last May with the retirement of Rusty Powers.

As the new Fire Chief, Gibson will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic plans of the City’s Fire/EMS Department.

Most recently, Gibson served as the Managing Director of Harris County Emergency Services District 9 and a Research Associate at the Hobby School for Public Affairs at the University of Houston and has served as a firefighter for more than 27 years. Before becoming a firefighter, Gibson served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves for nine years. He received an Associates of Applied Science at the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science at Texas A&M University – Commerce and is currently working on his Masters of Public Service and Administration at the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government.

“We are excited to have Tim join our team at the City and be a part of this community,” says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “He brings a wealth of experience in Fire/EMS operations, training and Fire Station construction that will be a great asset not only to the Fire Department but for the City as well.”

Gibson and his wife, Tina, have four children – Cameron, Amber, Wade and Logan.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead the Fire Department and establish roots in a small town,” says Gibson. “My kids have only known life in Houston and we really wanted to give them an opportunity to live in a smaller town. We have friends in the area and have heard many good things about Plainview. I look forward to working with the City and becoming a part of the community.”
