Functions

The city attorney is the legal advisor and attorney for the mayor, City Council, city manager, and all city departments and boards. This office advises on litigation for both civil and criminal matters.

Duties

The city attorney represents the city in litigation and administrative hearings, prosecutes all actions in Municipal Court, and drafts and prepares contracts, resolutions, ordinances, and other papers and documents in which the city is a party or has an interest.

This office also manages the city’s real property interests, including acquisitions and dispositions of property, easements, rights of way, leases, franchises, and licenses.
